Farrell Transport Ltd is pleased to announce a major expansion of its network operations with the launch of full services through the Pallet-Track Northern Regional Hub in Wigan, effective March 2nd, 2026.
This strategic move marks another milestone in Farrell Transport’s continued and measured growth, further strengthening its nationwide pallet distribution capabilities.
Strengthening Nationwide Coverage
In addition to Pallet-Track’s central hub, the network operates two regional hubs located in Welwyn Garden City and Wigan. Farrell Transport has long operated successfully through the Southern Regional Hub and has now opted to integrate fully across all three hubs, enhancing operational flexibility and service resilience.
Regional hubs play a vital role in balancing freight volumes across the network. By distributing traffic more evenly, they help alleviate seasonal pressure on the central hub — particularly during peak trading periods and short bank holiday weeks when volumes traditionally surge.
Operational Efficiency at the Core
Chris Goodyear, Senior Manager at Farrell Transport, commented:
“The Southern regional hub was an instant hit with us from the day we joined. Not only does it reduce overall handling, but it also gives us greater efficiency at what can be a hectic end-of-day operation when freight is loaded onto our six-night trunk vehicles.”
He added:
“Regional segregation during evening loading allows us to safely and efficiently cross-deck freight directly from delivery and collection vehicles, without the need to temporarily floor-load freight before assigning it to trunk vehicles. This significantly improves handling efficiency and safety.”
The enhanced freight dissipation across multiple hubs also allows Farrell Transport to be more proactive in managing held-over freight during busier trading periods. This improved balance works seamlessly alongside the company’s general haulage movements.
Data-Driven Expansion
Prior to committing to the Northern Hub, Farrell Transport conducted a comprehensive six-month operational study to assess projected “what if” freight volumes into Wigan.
The results were extremely positive, demonstrating strong inbound and outbound balance capacity across all sites. As a result, Farrell Transport will commence a two-night trunk operation into the Northern Hub from early March.
This expansion increases the company’s night trunk fleet from six to seven vehicles, achieving near-virtual inbound and outbound balance across all three Pallet-Track hubs.
Positioned for Future Growth
By integrating fully with Pallet-Track’s regional hub structure, Farrell Transport is positioning itself for sustainable long-term growth while maintaining operational excellence.
The move reinforces the company’s commitment to efficiency, resilience, and delivering high service standards to customers across the UK.
